How Do You Grow A Personal Brand?

Personal brand.

Seems like those two words are everywhere these days. “You need to build your personal brand!” the business coaches/branding experts/social media marketers are saying.

But what exactly is a personal brand? Simply put, it is the impression that everyone you interact with (online and off) gets in response to your personal style, values, and skills.

This leads us to personal branding. What is that?! Hint: It is so much more than a snazzy new headshot and logo.

Personal branding is the art of becoming knowable, likable and trustable.

Essentially, it is the ongoing process of establishing an image or impression of yourself in the mind of others.

So how are the two connected and WHY is a personal brand so important?

Take a moment to consider that each and every message and image you put out into the world as an opportunity to either elevate or diminish your personal brand and build a connection with your ideal client. Whether you want to strengthen current relationships, build your business, reach your ideal client, or connect with influencers for a great cause, having a visible, attractive, and authentic personal brand is key.

WHY? Because people are more likely do business with people they know, like, and trust! Showing more of yourself builds relationships and makes you more relatable to your online community.

Social media is changing the way we communicate and the way we are perceived, both positively and negatively. Every time you post a photo, or update your status, you are contributing to your own digital footprint and personal brand.

So in short, YES! You have a personality and, as an extension, a personal brand. You may or may not be sharing your personal brand with intention, but you definitely have one. Just ask the people closest to you what comes to mind when they think of you and you will start to hear the same values and stories repeated over and over. This perception of you is your personal brand.

Do your friends and family’s perceptions of you match how you see yourself? Is their perception more positive or negative? How do you take the negatives and turn them into positives? Are you unintentionally doing things that could be diminishing your audience’s trust in you? And most importantly,
